Ouray Trip 5/24/11

We headed to Ouray this past Tuesday for a field trip with Lauren's 4th grade class. It was cold and wet but we had a good time.
Below is a picture of the Bachelor Syracuse Mine area. The kids got to play around panning for gold in the stream. Too bad it is a silver mine and not a gold mine. Ha!

Here we are getting ready to take a trammer 1800 feet up into the silver mine. Once inside we got off the trammer and it left us for about 1 hour. The gentleman in the green plaid shirt gave us a great explaination of what it was like to be a miner and discussed different techniques about how they mine for silver. The kids were SUPER interested and did a great job listening and asking questions.

After we got out of the mine, the sun decided to show up and we had a nice picnic lunch.

We were about an hour late getting to the Ouray Hot Springs Pool, but that didn't stop the kids from having a great time.

We left the house at 7:30 am and got home about 5:15 pm. It was a long, but fun, day.
