After getting packed and hauling the dogs and Lauren over to my parent's house, Matt and I headed out of town to Gateway for a day/night at Gateway Canyon's resort. We splurged and got the Kiva Lodge deluxe room with our own hot tub. After arriving and grabbing a bite to eat, we headed to the pool. We hung out at the pool for a while (but it was slightly awkward because Lauren's soccer coach and all her kids were there...go figure...that's what ya get for living in a small town...it was employee family day at the pool) and then changed and went over to the auto museum and outdoor shop. The museum (and resort for that matter) is owned by John Hendrick, Discovery Channel founder, and there are some super cool cars in the museum. We headed over for dinner then out for a walk....that's when the real fun began. After finishing our walk, we hung out in the room. It was hot outside, but we realized we had a problem when our room just didn't seem to cool down in the evening. Matt called the front desk and they came over immediately. They had us switch rooms and they credited us 20% on our bill. It was late and dark and we decided it was the perfect time to hop into the hot tub on the back porch. I'm glad we didn't "hop" in, it would have burned our flesh off. It was so freakin' hot that it was not tolerable...even for me who likes to take HOT baths. So instead, we laid out on the lounge chairs and looked at the stars. The next morning, we went over to the front desk to let them know about the hot tub so that the next guest wouldn't burn themselves. They apologized again and bought us breakfast. Although the stay was riddled with issues, the staff at the resort is AMAZING and we would definitely go back again. Definitely an anniversary to remember!
