The antique 1880 train left the depot about 8:30 a.m. and headed to Hill City. We were 3 in a group of about 30 people on the 5 or 6 car train. Everything was so lush and green and beautiful. We learned a lot of history about the area and the small mining communities on the way over. We turned around in Hill City after picking up about 150 people and headed back to Keystone. The whole trip was about 2 hours long and well worth it.
After lunch, we went up to Mount Rushmore...the memorial that prompted the entire vacation. It was beautiful. You can feel the history as you walk towards the monuments through the avenue of flags.

I love the picture of Lauren asleep against the train windowsill. It's precious and so sweet!
And I like the pic again of her on the super sized chair! Awesome!
